Drawing is not a “talent.” It is a skill.
Many people believe they “can’t draw a straight line.” The truth is, drawing has very little to do with your hands and everything to do with your eyes.
In this 4-week foundation course, professional artist Bartosz Beda will teach you how to deconstruct the visual world and translate it onto paper. You will move beyond drawing “symbols” (what you think a chair looks like) and start drawing reality (what you actually see).
This is a focused, supportive environment designed for absolute beginners and those looking to refresh their fundamental skills.
What You Will Learn
We focus on the classical pillars of drawing using charcoal and graphite.
- Week 1: Line & Contour. Learning to trust your eye. Blind contour drawing, gesture drawing, and breaking the fear of the blank page.
- Week 2: Negative Space, Proportion & Perspective. How to measure with your eye and use the space around an object to draw the object itself.
- Week 3: Value & Light. Moving from flat outlines to 3D form. Understanding light sources, shadows, and how to create volume.
- Week 4: Composition & Still Life. Bringing it all together. Setting up a still life and completing a finished drawing.
The syllabus may be adjusted based on class progress.
